New Age Blast Media Certifications

New Age Blast Media® is sandblasting media manufactured from 100% Recycled Bottle Glass, which means it is non-toxic and completely inert, that can be used near and around water.

In addition to worker safety benefits, New Age Blast Media® works great for sandblasting thick or soft coatings, aluminum, brass, bright metal, and "spot and sweep" applications.

Because of its light weight, it is good for remote operations and because glass is less dense than other sandblasting medias, it will often be possible to use fewer pounds of material, saving money.

Bottle or try-mix glass is chemically known as "Amorphous Silica" it contains virtually no free silica which is commonly found in blasting sand and other abrasive sandblasting medias.

It also has been added to the Qualified Products List by the US Navy. Crushed glass is qualified under MIL-A-2262-B, Amendment-2 - Abrasive Blasting Media Ship Hull, Blast Cleaning. Based on toxicological safety evaluations by the Naval Environmental Health Center (NEHC),

New Age Blast Media® could be safely used for its intended purpose. The addition of crushed glass to QPL includes Coarse (10-40 mesh) and Medium (40-70 mesh).

The angular particles of New Age Blast Media® allow for aggressive surface profiling and removal of coatings such as such as epoxy, paint, alkyds, vinyl, polyurea, coal tar and elastomerics.

Recycled glass blast media has similar hardness to many sandblasting slags, 6.0 on Mohs Scale. New Age Blast Media® is lighter weight than many blasting slags which allows for increased consumption efficiency and production time. It also delivers very low particle embedment (less than 2%) which produces a whiter (SP-10) finish to the substrate.

Recycled glass which  has a lower melting temperature than virgin raw materials, reducing the amount of energy used in the melting process. Energy usage is reduced by 2–3% for every 10% of recycled glass used in the manufacturing process. For every ton of recycled glass used, approximately 1.125 tons of the earth's natural resources are saved.

The Manufacturing Process Of New Age Blast Media

The manufacturing process reduces the recycled bottle glass and strips the contaminants and waste by-products from the glass.

This filtered glass is then crushed into the desired sizes, screened to be sorted into different grades from course and medium and all the way down to a fine powder.  Specialty sizes are available upon request.

Bottle or Tri-Mix Glass is chemically known as “Amorphous Silica.” It has virtually no crystalline-silica, which is commonly found in sand. Crystalline Silica is the leading cause of Silicosis.

The finished product is then bagged in 50lb, 80lb, or 3,000lb super sacs and packaged for shipment!
